Kids Operating Room to establish three paediatric operating rooms across the West Bank

The first facility will be developed at Al Ahli Hospital, strengthening long-term surgical care for children across Palestine.

Kids Operating Room is moving forward with plans to establish three dedicated paediatric operating rooms across the West Bank — a decisive step towards addressing the growing crisis in children’s access to safe surgery across Palestine.

The programme will begin in Hebron, where a new paediatric operating room at Al Ahli Hospital will unlock urgently needed capacity for children who are currently waiting too long — and in too many cases suffering unnecessarily — for surgery they should be able to access without delay.

Years of conflict and instability have placed immense strain on healthcare systems across Palestine. Hospitals are overstretched, theatre space is scarce, and children are paying the price. While skilled Palestinian surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses are ready to operate, the lack of dedicated paediatric operating rooms continues to restrict access to timely, safe care.

This is not a problem of expertise. It is a problem of infrastructure — and it is exactly the challenge Kids Operating Room exists to solve.

The three planned operating rooms, to be established in Hebron, Bethlehem and Jericho, will function as a connected regional system of care. Together, they will reduce waiting times, ease pressure on overstretched hospitals, and ensure children can access surgery when they need it — not simply when space becomes available. Designed to international clinical standards and built to serve communities for decades, these facilities represent a permanent step forward for children’s healthcare across the West Bank.

Beginning in Hebron, this work is a clear statement of intent. Children in Palestine deserve access to safe surgery, and waiting for conditions to improve is not an option.
