What We Do

Installing a Kids Operating Room

Our operating rooms are created with love, care and specialist expertise. Everything is done in close partnership with hospitals and local healthcare professionals. We work hand in hand to understand their needs and enable them to create impact that lasts.

Pre-installation

Many months of work go into preparing a Kids Operating Room for installation.

Transportation

Conveying our specialised equipment to remote locations can be a challenge. Shipping can take up to 12 weeks, followed by a land transfer to the hospital, dealing with local climate and infrastructure conditions.

Artwork design

Our unique artwork is created to reassure and distract young patients, unlike the usual cold and clinical hospital environment. It helps children feel safe and families feel hope.

Renovation

The site is renovated to make sure it’s a safe, high-quality environment for surgery. During this phase, Solar Surgery Systems are installed, which includes setting up the incoming mains and roof rails for the solar panels.

Our role is to make sure surgeons have what they need to keep operating, even in the most challenging environments.

Post-installation

Our commitment doesn’t end at handover.

Ongoing support

We keep duplicate copies of all provided equipment at our Centre of Global Operations, allowing us to offer 1-to-1 video call training to support the local surgical teams with any equipment troubleshooting.

Measuring our impact

We monitor and evaluate the surgical cases handled by hospitals, helping us assess and maximise the impact of our operating rooms. We also closely track the use of our Solar Surgery units and supporting equipment.

Story gathering

Telling the story of kids who can now live normal happy childhoods is vital to allow us to continue our life-changing work.
